LOS ANGELES — Dearica Hamby is going to be an Olympian.
USA Basketball announced Monday that Hamby has been named the 2024 USA 3×3 women’s national team set to compete in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, as an injury replacement for Sparks rookie forward Cameron Brink.
The 30-year-old Hamby is currently averaging a career-high 17.8 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals for the Sparks.

Racehorse trainer David Hofmans dies at 81

David Hofmans, a Belmont Stakes- and Breeders’ Cup Classic-winning trainer who was a popular figure at Southern California thoroughbred tracks for 50 years, died Wednesday at his home near Santa Anita Park. He was 81.
Hofmans’ wife, Linda Murray Hofmans, confirmed the news, saying Arcadia police were investigating and an autopsy was pending.
“We’re devastated,” Linda Murray Hofmans said, requesting privacy for the Hofmans family.

Two horses ran into traffic on the 5 Freeway, near the 210 Freeway in Sylmar, and were stuck and killed by passing motorists on Tuesday, July 2, the California Highway Patrol said.
Around 9 p.m., CHP officers responded to several calls about three horses in the traffic lanes of the northbound 5 with followup reports of two horses getting hit by passing cars.

Furnace Creek, California, home of the visitor center at Death Valley National Park, will reach 122 degrees Fahrenheit on Wednesday, and temperatures will climb even further as the week goes on, according to Jenn Varian, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
